Around the Bay in a Day – by Marianne Fontaine, 2012-10-23

Sophie and Amanda had a fantastic day on Sunday. They managed very well and LOVED the 36" unis. They kept commenting that they couldn't believe how quickly the ride went. Getting up the West Gate Bridge didn't seem a problem for them either, must have been all that training on the hills around where we live! The weather was quite good, still a bit windy at times - but nothing like last year. They rode the 50km in 4hours 23 minutes and that included a 40 minute break at the half way point.

Here's a photo of them at the starting point dressed up in their Olympics green and gold!

Japan 2011 – by Mark Wharton, 2011-11-01

These last several months we have been working hard behind the scenes on a new strategy and website, Kevin recently visited Japan so it was a good chance to sit down and discuss face-to-face, and fine tune everything. And here it is – you're looking at it ! We are very happy with the results and we hope you will be too. The new structure is very flexible and opens up the website for new and exciting things to come!

Kevin competed in the 7th Japan Trials & MUni competition in Shizuoka Prefecture while he was here. It was an excellent competition, and everyone involved had a great time! We also visited the Tama New Town Unicycle Club for Flatland & Trials practice! Our new Japan 2011 video includes highlights from the competition and snippets of our rides around Tama New Town and Tokyo. Please enjoy and thank you for supporting us!

One Week After – by Mark and Kevin Wharton, 2011-03-18

It has been one week since the catastrophic magnitude 9.0 earthquake struck off the north east coast of Japan. The earthquake and subsequent tsunami, along with the ongoing nuclear reactor issues, has affected millions of people. Sadly, thousands of lives have been lost and many thousands more remain unaccounted for. Services in the affected areas and Tokyo itself are stopped or in extremely limited supply.

As many already know, Mark lives in Tokyo and operates Unicycle Online with his son Kevin in Toowoomba. Following recent events we have decided to stop the online component of the business indefinitely while we take care of our respective family and monitor the situation around us.

Thanks for all the emails and kind words of support. It is very encouraging in times like this!

Devastation in Toowoomba – by Mark and Kevin Wharton, 2011-01-10

Incredible and tragic events have hit our lovely town of Toowoomba! The Lockyer Valley has also suffered a massive blow. As we write, South East Queensland is struggling to cope with the volumes of water which has fallen in the last several days.

Thank you for all your support, the phone calls, the emails, the facebook comments, they all mean a lot to us. Our condolences go out to the families who have lost loved ones. We cannot even pretend to imagine such pain and heartache :-(

As a result of the flooding, and with the current conditions, we will close shop for a week or two. We cannot process orders or get deliveries out and feel it is better to wait a bit and help cleanup...

Thank You Everyone – by Mark Wharton, 2010-12-20

Thank you everyone for a fantastic 2010! From Unicon XV and the Australian Mountain Unicycle Weekend , to Ausbike , and Uninats it has been an absolute blast.I'm really impressed with the level of riders and participation this year. Here's to bigger and better in the year ahead! I'm currently rethinking the team idea. It's important and I want to continue, but we have so many people who we support and want to support. It would be nice to be more inclusive and to share more of our collective knowledge and skill around... what do you think?

Unicon XV News – by Kevin Wharton, 2010-02-01

Recently, the team arrived back in Australia after competing at Unicon XV (Unicycling World Championships). Everyone had a blast and itwas great to have the whole team together and to be able to meet and compete with riders from all around the world. Congratulations to everyone on the team for putting in such a great effort!

Everybody did well in their events as well, here are the results from our Team Riders with a top 6th place:

Kevin Wharton - 2nd 16-17 Male Trials
Isaac Conyers - 3rd 16-17 Male Trials
- 3rd 15-16 Male Long Jump
Dylan Johnson-Swainston - 5th 0-15 Male Trials
- 4th Jr Expert Male Street
- 4th Jr Expert Male Flat
- 4th 0-15 Male Muni Uphill
- 4th 0-14 Male High Jump

Unfortunately Sam Thomas didn't get in the top 6 for his event, with tough competition such as Chris Huriwai, Loic Baud and Adrien Delecroix.

Mark Wharton came 5th last in the Muni cross country but was happy to have participated.

It was also great for Mark and I to catch up with everyone we met at EUC Summer 09 and to meet so many other unicyclists! Oh yes, and we've also added some new products, and there's more to come!

Sydney Opera House Update – by Kevin Wharton, 2009-11-05

The Sydney Opera House Open Day was a great success! We spent the morning riding out and around the Opera House, it was fun to interact with the crowd and other performers. Around 12PM it started to rain, so we headed under the stairs where majority of the lines were. We set up our demo boxes and entertained the crowd there for the rest of the day. The lines kept moving so we always had a new crowd to please!

Special thanks to Alex Toms, Dan Cowling, Matty P, Andy Mell and of course Mark!

A larger photo is available on my (Kevin Wharton) Team Rider profile.

Sydney Opera House Open Day – by Kevin Wharton, 2009-10-07

We have been given the opportunity to participate in the Sydney Opera House Open Day , which will be held on Sunday the 25th of October 2009 . Alex Toms, Dan Cowling, Matty Porter, Andrew Mell and myself will be riding for the day.We will be riding from 9AM - 5PM, basically our job is to entertain the crowd outside of the Sydney Opera House as they line up for tours. It is also a great chance to promote Extreme Unicycling, Unicycle Online and ourselves as riders.

More information about the day:
Sydney Opera House is throwing open the doors and welcomes you to explore inside. Go behind the scenes, see inside the grand theatres and discover how the magic of performance is created.
There'll be action inside and outside with roaming entertainment, Trent Parke's Photography Exhibition and a big-screen on the Forecourt. Plus your chance to win some great prizes on the day!
A free, fun-filled day out for the whole family, where you can let your imagination run wild.
